Polkadot Head Ambassador Application: Michiko Watanabe

Konichi-wa from Tokyo, Japan!

My name is Michiko Watanabe (渡辺 径子) and I would like to become a Head Ambassador for Polkadot in Japan.

I learned the first time about Bitcoin from Mt. Gox incident in Tokyo, although I was not affected myself luckily. I later traded some ETH and learned about Polkadot in 2021, when Astar did para-chain. This made me very interested, and I listen to a lot of speeches from the creator of Astar, Mr. Sota Watanabe. (We share the same last name but are not a family 😂 Watanabe is a very common name in Japan) I also like Mr. Gavin who I often watch on Youtube to study, and also met in person during his trip to Japan. Polkadot is a third generation blockchain, and has many use cases in the enterprise adoption.

My personal background is in enterprise software implementation for Salesforce in Japan. I worked at the company over 6 years for clients such as Toyota, SoftBank, Mizuho Securities and ANA Airlines. As a lead project manager I helped them implement new products that improve efficiency. However, after 6 years I became a little bit bored to work in traditional software, and would like to move full-time to Web3.

Since Polkadot is my favorite blockchain technology, I have also organized many events in the past such as an Introduction to Polkadot at the Salesforce Office Tokyo during 2021 which was attended by 50 people. I am also an organizer of the Polkadot meetup in Shibuya. We have met many times last year and this year to chat about Polkadot and explain the technology to people new to Web3. I think this meetup is very helpful and many people from Japan corporates attend who want to learn to improve their technology (for example supply chain trading, commerce, transportation).

Astar has made a change to “zkEVM Polygon”, so we’re not sure if this is good idea. I personally believe Polkadot is better 🙂 In Japan there are many corporation that want to build interesting Web3 project, but they are not so familiar with Polkadot. So I think I will do more meetup in Tokyo. Also I have background in enterprise software, so as Ambassador I can help Japan companies adopt Polkadot technology easily.

Thank you for consideration,
Michiko

You need to know , that with this initiative you oppose yourself to hundreds ex-Ambassadors who was throw back by this initiative.

This is not Polkadot Ambassador Program it's the Whale Ambassador Program

I vote NAY for all candidates who applied , here are the reasons and explanations:

@saxemberg Hello Saxemberg-san 🙂
I will be FTE as I quite my job at Salesforce already. So I can focus 100% on promoting Polkadot and grow adoption at corporates. Also I have several friends and former colleagues from Salesforce to together work, for example they will become my ambassador so we have more effect on promoting Polkadot.

You also ask about geographic area. Let me reply that I will 100% focus on JAPAN market. Since Astar move to Polygon, there are no good other teams in Japan to support Polkadot, so I have to do it. Also my English is not soo good, but I speak Japanese fluently 🙂

@Patricia A Hallo Patricia-san 🙂 I have done many contributions to Polkadot, for example Polkadot at the Salesforce Office Tokyo and Shibuya Polkadot meetups (5 times already). Will take more photos next time and send it here! At Salesforce I was top software implementation officer in Tokyo office in 2021, so I think I can help many Japan corporations implement Polkadot solutions easily.

こんにちは,

Your introduction sounds impressive, and it would be great to have someone from Japan region in the HA team. Organizing meetups/networking events is a good start, but on the long run it will be probably preferred to by done by Ambassadors and Senior Ambassadors - based on your background it would be interesting to know more about what you'd do after starting a successful meetup series and how you'd grow Polkadot in the region. Please let us know your thoughts for longer term thoughts.

Good luck on the election!

Hello Michiko!
Your proposal sounds promising. It's great to see that managers of large banks and multinational companies are open to Polkadot and want to take an active, responsible role in the Web3 movement as a Polkadot Head Ambassador.

Although the experiences so far are really attractive and the outlined Business Development trends sound good, for now I still have to vote with Nay for several reasons:
1., The achievements so far sounds great, but it should be supported with 1-1 links, pictures, anything.
2. There is no exact idea or plan apart from the list of meetups and BD directions. Could we see a detailed plan?
3., There is no verified on-chain identity on your wallet address

If you provide your answers, would be fantastic. Good luck!

@ChaosDAO Chaos DAO is AGAINST having regional Head Ambassadors?!? I wish good luck to Leemo-san to come to Tokyo and do BD with his heavy British accent that nobody in Japan can understand 😂
