KryptosChain Media (The Next Level!) - 6 Months of funding

Proposer: KRYPTOSCHAIN

Address: 13kzfkXXF7nSCzaMS2Eok8scDS9jZk89yWyfsCBWvDDJKaZy

Contact: @KryptosChain on X or Telegram.

Duration: Roughly around 6 months (26 weeks)

Amount: $89,775 (including 5% insurance if the price drops too much)(22,687 DOT with DOT price at $3.956 EMA7)

Team: Myself (Claudio), Adam Steeber and a contracted video editor.

About me: My name's Claudio and I'm a Polkadot Ambassador & Crypto Content Creator since 2018 and since the end of 2020 mostly contributed towards the growth of the Polkadot ecosystem through media marketing on Youtube & X. Youtube channel: Over 18,700 subscribers

X profile: Over 5,750 followers

About Adam: Adam has been an active member in the Kusama and Polkadot ecosystem since early 2021. He got started by running a validator and writing technical articles during initial parachain launches. Since his beginnings he's been a champion for the community, getting involved in and leading many projects. His extensive experience, both socially and technically, gives him unique insight on the ecosystem as a whole. Adam isn't strictly part of any team or projects other than his own, giving him an opportunity to candidly speak his mind. His valuable perspectives have now enhanced the Kryptoschain brand, expanding the channel's independent voice via our new livestream program DOT Take.

You can find more info about me & my past proposals by checking out the previous treasury proposals: Ref.152 (Approved & Delivered), Ref.37 (Approved & Delivered) & on Kusama Ref.46 (Approved & Delivered) , Ref.38 (Rejected), Ref.201 (Rejected)

Description: KryptosChain ethos has always been to simplify explanations, therefore I have decided to simplify this proposal by adding all the necessary info in this Polkassembly post rather than a separate proposal so as not to bore you and to keep things simple to read.

Before you read my proposal, just know that I always give more to the community than I request. In the sense that you can expect extra videos to be published that may be of value to a user without any extra cost, such as certain Tutorials or last minute updates that should definitely be published due to the value they can bring! You can find a video here which I've put together a while ago containing short segment from my collaborations with other Content Creators in order to spread the Polkadot vision to many others outside the ecosystem so that you can see I've really put passion into this ecosystem for a long time now and I'm not simply just looking to get paid for producing content.

This proposal asks the Polkadot Treasury for funding of a total of 171 videos & advertisement costs uploaded to the KryptosChain Youtube channel & KryptosChain X profile (except for the livestreams) during November to April

An average per week (some weeks more, some less), over 26 weeks:

2 weekly x Polkadot News 2 weekly x Polkadot Ecosystem Explainers / Major updates dedicated to one brand (Parachains, L2s, solo chains or wallet teams)

Total: 104 videos

Over 26 weeks 10 x Interviews (with Founders/Co-Founders) to ask for updates or first time interviews. 5 x Tutorials (How to use dApps or wallets, including newly added features).

Total: 15 videos

DOT TAKE Podcast: A livestream podcast initiative that me and OG community member and ex-Validator, Adam Steeber have launched on the 6th of October and we plan to continue and because research takes time and time = money, but we believe this podcast can bring value to the ecosystem and it has been well received so far as you'll get unbiased "takes" from each of us with an occasional Proposer invited to discuss their proposal if it's a big one or a debatable one. I will therefore be replacing my usual Open Gov videos with the DOT TAKE podcast instead so I can focus on the other initiatives mentioned above and I believe this podcast brings more value than my usual Open Gov videos.

The plan is to run two livestreams on Tuesdays and Fridays at 17:00 UTC just as we have done for free till now. If for personal reasons one of us can't make it at the specified time or encounter any technical difficulties, we'll re-schedule and make up for the missed podcast.

Total: 26 weeks x 2 podcasts = 52 DOT TAKE Podcasts

The video content will be split as following:

$500 per video — 52 Polkadot News videos (ecosystem announcements) = $26,000

$600 per video - 52 Polkadot Ecosystem Explainers / Major updates dedicated to one brand = $31,200

$500 per video - 10 Interviews (with Founders/Co-Founders) to ask for updates or first time interviews = $5,000

$500 per video - 5 Tutorials (How to use dApps or wallets, including newly added features) = $2,500

$400 per video ($200 for me and $200 for Adam) - 52 DOT TAKE Podcast Livestreams = $20,800 ($10,400 to me and $10,400 to Adam) On the side, Adam promised to tithe 10% of his DOT Take share to a reward pool for DOT Take listeners and thus hopefully bring more engagement on the DOT TAKE podcast which is already doing pretty good with 6 episodes already streamed for free.

Advertisement: I plan to also run an Ad campaign for some of the videos on both X which has proven successful to other Creators and Youtube, but because Youtube's advertisement platform is still in Beta, the focus will be on X with a small amount allocated to Youtube as a test and if it fails, the rest will be pushed on X.

The Ad campaign will run shortly after funding is paid out, but not for the full duration of this proposal (just in case things don't work out), therefore December to April is a long enough timeframe to see if advertisement brings value. I plan to allocate $400 a month to X advertisement for certain videos such as the Explainer ones which I think will be of big value to anyone seeing it as well as some News videos.

The total cost for the advertisement campaign will be $2,000

The total cost for the work that will be delivered is $85,500 & we will include 5% insurance in case the price drops too much, thus the total requested amount from the treasury being $89,775

The prices for the videos include Editor costs for some of the videos, as these videos will be well edited in order to provide more value and more quality in the eyes of a viewer while keeping the viewer engaged. In terms of the DOT TAKE podcast, Adam will be getting his share of the funding transferred separately to his own wallet for transparency.

Here you can find the live report of where each video will be publicly shared as it's completed or as there's work in progress --> Live Reporting

So clearly this is a NAY from me and should be from most people do to the absurd nature of the ask

Setting aside the facts

  • That you want 500 USD a video. ~89K USD for 6 months work. i.e. You would be in the top 1% of earners globally for just making in my opinion terrible youtube videos.
  • This person has previously Doxxed other community members.
  • This person has made no effort to make their business sustainable long term. Meaning he expects us to fund him forever for content that is non-education, not evergreen and quite frankly low quality.

My Main point of issue with this.

Saying you get "5% for the slippage fees" is just factually incorrect.

You can sell 115K USD in DOT on binance right now for less than 1% slippage. I'm looking at the market right now.

I'm getting so sick of people in this industry pissing on my leg and then telling me it's raining. This is just another classic example of KryptosChain thinking everyone else in the ecosystem is stupid and he can pull the wool over our eyes.

Clearly a NAY from anyone who cares about Facts, the truth or the general health of the polkadot influencer ecosystem.

Over the past months, the Polkadot ecosystem has generously extended financial support to numerous content creators, with the aspiration of nurturing an informed and engaged community. Notable among the beneficiaries has been KryptosChain, whose initial proposals received support, mine included. The underlying assumption, at least my own, was that a reasonable one-time financial gesture would catalyze a ripple of educative and engaging content, enriching the Polkadot community.

However, it appears that what was envisioned as a goodwill gesture has morphed into an expectation of a regular salary from the treasury by some content creators. This shift warrants a thorough re-evaluation of our funding strategy toward content creation.

The fundamental question we need to grapple with is the return on investment that these funded endeavors are delivering to the Polkadot community. The funding asks are substantial, often exceeding $100,000 annually, yet the metrics demonstrating the commensurate value addition to the ecosystem remain elusive. It's not unreasonable to expect content creators to provide objective, verifiable Key Performance Indicators that demonstrate how their efforts are attracting new users and how the funding received aligns with the influence they exert within and beyond the Polkadot ecosystem.

Taking a step further, the sustainability and self-sufficiency of these content channels should be a critical factor in our evaluation. A content creator's ability to secure advertising or subscriptions is a tangible indicator of the value they provide and the interest they garner. If a channel struggles to achieve self-sustenance, it's worth questioning the rationale behind allocating, or continuing to allocate, community resources to support it.

Now, delving a tad deeper into the ethos of our ecosystem. Polkadot has been conceived, built, and is continually enhanced by brilliant developers. It's a platform that, by its very nature, offers a wealth of content for discussion, analysis, and dissemination. Content creators who successfully build self-sustaining channels around Polkadot arguably owe a debt of gratitude to the ecosystem that provides them with engaging material, and potentially, a livelihood. The notion that the Polkadot treasury owes a recurrent financial obligation to content creators is a premise that needs revisiting.

It's imperative that we create and foster a culture of self-sustainability, accountability, and demonstrable impact among content creators. The Polkadot treasury should not be perceived as a regular revenue stream, but rather, as a springboard for creators to build self-sustaining, impactful channels that contribute tangibly to Polkadot. The metrics for evaluating proposals need to be stringent, transparent, and tied to clear indicators of community engagement and ecosystem growth. This approach will ensure that our resources are allocated judiciously, upholding the core values and long-term vision of the Polkadot ecosystem.
