Subscan | Infrastructure Costs of Subscan for Polkadot & Westend & Rococo & Statemint & Rockmine Networks (from October 2023 to June 2024)

Subscan is an essential block explorer and analytics tool for the Polkadot network, providing valuable insights to the Polkadot community. However, maintaining and operating Subscan requires a significant investment of resources, including server infrastructure, security, and personnel costs. Therefore, we propose reimbursing the operation and maintenance fees for Subscan for the period from October 2023 to June 2024 from the Polkadot treasury to ensure its continuous operation and maintenance.

We highly value feedback from our community users. Over the past few months, building on previous efforts, we have continued to make substantial strides in reducing infrastructure costs. The results have been significant. For instance, we have reduced Datadog expenses from $4173.70 in September 2023 to $1494.45 in June 2024. Despite the continuous increase in on-chain data over the past nine months, the total cost for this reimbursement period is only 73.37% of the previous period. We will continue to explore additional ways to further reduce costs, ensuring the project operates more sustainably in the future. Specific details can be found in the billing section.

Subscan helps people understand the Polkadot network.
It needs a lot of resources like servers and staff to run.
We want to get money from the Polkadot treasury to keep Subscan going from October 2023 to June 2024.
We have worked hard to lower costs, like cutting monthly expenses on Datadog from over $4,000 to about $1,500.
Even though we have more data now, the costs for running Subscan are lower than before.
